Beauty Review | Eminence Calendula Oil

Though I haven’t jumped on the oil cleansing band wagon yet, I have done quite a bit of personal research into using oils in my beauty routine. I’m a big proponent of coconut oil masks for your hair, and I used to use a gel-to-oil cleanser from The Body Shop until they betrayed me and stopped making it ( 😦  ).

I currently use cleansers from Paula’s Choice and derma e that I’ve had great experiences with, so shifting to oil cleansing is probably not in my near future. However, thanks to a recent LaurenConrad.com article on skin detoxing, I became interested in trying an oil as a moisturizer.

Wedding Wednesday | Managing the Stress

Welcome to a new series for 2016 – Wedding Wednesday! As a newly engaged lady, I’m quickly discovering that planning a wedding is a very unique time in your life.  It’s a unique kind of stress as well. There’s tons of advice on the internet and resources to dig through, but honestly, even the amount of information is overwhelming. I hope to use this series to not only help my own brain work through the planning process, but to share some advice on how to make your wedding planning experience more fun than ulcer-inducing. Travel Tips | Packing a Carry On Bag

I love to travel, but packing is my least favorite part.

I’m a chronic over-packer, and always end up saying a prayer when I place my suitcase onto the scale at the airport. What if I forget something crucial? What if I have a spur of the moment need for these wedges? It’s not logical, I know, but I’m fearful of being unprepared.

So, I’m still learning my own tips and tricks for packing a suitcase. However, one thing I have built a perfect system for is packing a carry on bag. If you’re checking a suitcase, you’ll likely be bringing a “personal item” with you on board that most airlines still let you bring for free. This is typically a purse, backpack, or other bag that can fit under the seat in front of you. Through my travel experiences, I’ve fine tuned what to use for my bag, and what goes in it.

Choosing a Bag

With your carry on bag, you have to make the most of your space. Don’t be that person trying stuff a huge gym bag under the seat in front of you. The airline may even make you check it at the gate, which can be expensive! When choosing a bag,  pick something that you know is durable and won’t get scuffed. You’ll also want something that fits your essentials and is easy to carry with you before and after your flight.

I like using my favorite Michael Kors bag as my carry on. Kevin got me this as a Christmas gift last year, and I adore it! The bag is pretreated so it’s water proof and can take minor bumps without leaving a mark.

Tuesday Tidbits: Career Search Tips

Now that Memorial Day Weekend is done, it’s time to launch back into the week! As many of you know, for me, this currently does not mean going to a 9-5 job.

The 1 year anniversary of graduating with my master’s degree has come and gone, and I am still without employment in my field. Granted, a good portion of that time was dedicated to planning for and eventually executing a move away from Wyoming, and I haven’t been idle the whole time! I’ve been doing freelance and volunteer work, both of which have grown my portfolio and helped me continue  to fine tune my skills.

As I push on in my career search, I’ve come across some great advice in various places on the internet. I’ve also had plenty of opportunity to discover what absolutely does not work, and some things that do help on the job hunt. This week’s Tuesday Tidbits post is dedicated to some awesome career search related content!

What I’m Loving This Week: Career Search Tips

→ One of the biggest challenges I face before relocating was letting employers know that my out of state address wasn’t going to be a hindrance, that I was ready to relocate, and I wanted this particular job. Careerealism has a great post on  tips for achieving this.

→ Unfortunately, in my job hunt, I’ve had a few major disappointments where I had awesome interviews, progressed until the last round of hiring, and then did not get the job. DailyWorth (one of my FAVORITE websites) has a fantastic roundup of why this happens.

→ In order to build my network out here in Portland, I have been working on scheduling informational interviews with PR agencies and professionals in this area. My second one is tomorrow afternoon! This Forbes article has advice for setting these up.

→ For my fellow PR young professionals – check out the PRSA’s entry-level employment center.

→ Fellow blogger Bernandine has a recent post that really resonated with me. I’ve been feeling a bit hopeless about my career, and her post on remembering that this state is temporary was the boost I needed.

→ And a little sweet kitty face never hurts morale, either:

Tuesday Tidbits

Ah, Tuesday again already!

My networking interview that was scheduled for today has been pushed back to next week, so my schedule is now wide open. Which means I need to get myself to the gym soon – there’s no excuse now!

So, with health on my mind today, here’s a few interesting wellness related tidbits.

What I’m Loving This Week:

This lemon-tumeric tonic. I don’t believe in getting on every health bandwagon, but after my lower back pain decided to rear its ugly head again a few weeks ago, I gave this supposedly anti-inflammatory drink a try. Within a few hours, the pain had gone down significantly – about as much as if I’d taken my usual pain killers instead.

→ Speaking  of strange drinks that work, both Kevin and I have managed to heal canker sores by drinking Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar drinks. This grape/acai flavor is pretty tasty for something containing vinegar!

→ Self-care is something I am trying to focus on more. Here’s a great list of self-care tips from Psychology Today.

→ I love HIIT workouts, and will be trying this one today from Tone it Up!

THIS is what Kevin and I will be having for dinner tonight. I am so excited to see how they turn out!

Have a great Tuesday!

How to Design a Skin Care Routine – A Brief Guide

skin care routine

For someone who struggles to take off my makeup and wash my face at night, I sure am obsessed with skincare. I spend a lot of time researching tips, advice,  and new products I can’t even begin to comprehend affording in my current unemployed state.

I’m also definitely not a trained esthetician or dermatologist.  I have picked up some great advice from estheticians I’ve had treatments from and been friends with. With research, I think I have at long last gotten a handle on how to put together a basic skincare routine.

It’s important to note that if you have a skin condition, you will need to see a dermatologist to design a skincare routine. Also, if you’ve never had a professional facial, schedule one in soon! You can learn tons from an esthetician, and having a facial once or twice a year (at the least) is relaxing, soothing for your skin, and a wonderful treat for yourself.

Here’s some guidelines for putting together your skincare toolkit, based on my experiences. I’ve included the products I use as examples here, and would definitely recommend the lines I use!

*Note: I have included links to the products I use as a resource, because I truly love them. This post is not anyway sponsored by any company mentioned in this post.

Tuesday Tidbits

Welcome to the first edition of Tuesday Tidbits!

Tuesday is my least favorite day of the week. Monday, even with its bad reputation, comes after a few days of rest and I usually feel recharged. Wednesday is half way through the week, Thursday is almost the end, and Friday is – Friday! Tuesday just doesn’t have much going for it. In Tuesday Tidbits, you’ll find a specially curated list of inspirational, fun things on my mind or that I’ve come across to help brighten it up! This week, as my job search continues, I’ve been delving into professional life tips and continued learning in the public relations realm.

What I’m loving this week:

I am horrible with mornings. But this article from Daily Worth has me inspired to get a routine going that energizes my day, like these successful women.

PR Daily has some great tips for new graduates on their blog, and I’ll definitely be joining in with the #RaganSocial Twitter Chat today at 2 PM central for more ideas!

If you don’t get The Skimm in your inbox every morning yet, you should be! This service gives you bite sized coverage of the day’s news. You can sign up through my referral link.

Every single one of the looks from the female side of the Mad Men cast during their last red carpet premiere (a year ago now, but since Mad Men just kicked off the final seven episodes last week, it still counts!)

And a little kitty love, since Ali doesn’t have a job either…
